The Department of Transportation and the International Air and Transport Association regulate the labeling, packaging, and shipping documentation for exempt human or animal specimens, non-pathogenic organisms, genetically modified organisms and pathogenic organisms.

Anyone who ships biological materials at IU Bloomington must complete the appropriate online training session.The Biosafety Office at IUEHS can provide guidance for packaging, labeling, and shipping. Some shipping materials including boxes, labels, bubble wrap, and absorbent material may be provided by the Biosafety Office.
